Introduction
In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, schools are often faced with the daunting challenge of keeping pace with the latest pedagogical strategies while also meeting the diverse needs of their students. Many teachers and school leaders feel they want to engage with research and evidence-based strategies but don’t know where to start. In addition, many professionals have had ineffective CPD based on neuromyths or unproven methods which can waste valuable time in the classroom.
Based on the award-winning books ‘How Learning Happens’ and ‘How Teaching Happens, this online training course directly addresses this challenge by equipping educators with evidence-based practices and insights from the science of learning. By embracing our online program, and leveraging the science of learning, we guide teachers and school leaders through the process of enriching their instructional practices, ensuring that every student benefits from a balanced, informed, and dynamic educational experience. Training is designed and led by the authors of the books, prof. dr. Carl Hendrick and prof. dr. Jim Heal.

Instructional videos
Each component features a video of the core principles of each topic with an example of how to use this knowledge in practice. The videos that Carl and Jim have created are segmented into shorter parts, focusing on the discussed concepts and principles although exceptions may be made for more in-depth elaboration of concepts or related examples.
Activities and interactive components per section
- Each component includes one or more interactive parts, based on the type of knowledge discussed in each section and its relevance to educators' practices.
- The course also features a set of retrieval questions related to knowledge previously covered. The selection of these questions is guided by their relevance to connecting the topics addressed in this module.
- Each key concept from the assignments should be shared and discussed with a peer in some form. This peer interaction allows for feedback that can help enhance the effective application of the knowledge.
Downloadable materials
Each module concludes:
- A printable conceptual overview of the content to be covered.
- Practical guides.
- Beyond the advanced organizer, participants can also download a 'Knowledge to Practice' poster. This poster provides a concise summary of the concepts discussed in the module and illustrates each with examples of how they can be applied in daily practice. The intention is for teachers to print this poster and refer to it as they apply these concepts in their own practice or while redesigning instructional materials.
- A list of recommended materials, books, and articles that teachers can utilize for further study or in-depth reading.
Quotes based on the book
"So often I’ve been asked to recommend a starting text for educators interested in the workings of the mind―now I have one. The text Kirschner and Hendrick offer alongside each seminal article does a wonderful job of situating the content in the broader scientific context, and in the classroom."
- Daniel Willingham, Professor of Psychology and Director of Graduate Studies, University of Virginia, US
"This is a terrific collection of some of thought-provoking and actionable articles about classroom teaching. The selections are sure to inform and challenge readers, and certainly will help them understand teaching better. It is also not farfetched to imagine that critical thinking about these articles will lead to better teaching."
- David C. Berliner, Regents’ Professor Emeritus, Arizona State University, US
